Ealing Council are currently proposing to build 31 new high quality sustainable homes on the car park at the corner of Arden Road and Uxbridge Road.
The current proposals provide a combination of one and two bedroom homes to support a sustainable, mixed community.
In response to the Climate Emergency, Ealing Council would like all new homes to promote sustainable ways of living and achieve a zero carbon operational energy target.
The design team are integrating the following sustainable measures to ensure the proposal meets this high standard:
• Renewable technologies to generate heat and energy, such as Solar Photo Voltaic Panels and Air Source Heat Pumps.
• Low energy lighting and appliances that will reduce energy bills.
• Low water consumption appliances to reduce hot water demand.
• Durable construction materials and waste management throughout the life of the building.
• External walls and floors that incorporate high levels of insulation to reduce heating bills and improve the acoustic environment.
• New trees, planting and landscaping to promote biodiversity and manage future flood risk.
• Street layouts that encourage the use of public transport, walking and cycling. This further reduces pollution and improves air quality.
The diagram above shows a typical one bedroom home and some of the key sustainable principles that have informed the proposal layouts:
• The majority of homes are dual or triple aspect so that they benefit from light at different times of day. None of the homes are solely north facing, to provide excellent ventilation, daylight and views.
• The homes will be generously proportioned with good sized, usable rooms and a high floor to ceiling height.
• High-performance windows will provide good natural light throughout and excellent thermal comfort. Shading canopies will ensure that the rooms do not overheat.
• Each home will have access to a generous private balcony or terrace.
